What’s up this weekend: Dec. 16 to 18

Christmas is only about a week away and, once again, there is plenty to do around Calgary this weekend. It’s getting cold again so make sure you bundle up if you partake in any outdoor events. Stay warm!

Cold Garden Carriage Rides: Enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride through Inglewood, starting at Cold Garden. There is a stop at The Attic where riders can grab a holiday-themed beverage before the carriage clip-clops back to Cold Garden. A few time slots are still available this Saturday and on Christmas Eve, with all profits going to Hillhurst United Church.

Once Upon a Christmas: Head to Heritage Park Saturday or Sunday for the last weekend of this popular holiday event. Take a horse-drawn wagon ride, visit with Santa, try out a scavenger hunt, listen to roving Christmas carollers, decorate gingerbread cookies, and so much more. You can also get some shopping done at the village shops and Christmas market.

Servus Tube Park: It’s the opening weekend for this fun activity at WinSport. Take the magic carpet up the hill and slide down one of eight snow-covered lanes. Tube park workers are more than happy to give your tube a spin or push down the hill if you want an extra adrenaline rush.

Perfectly Frank Christmas: Take in the music of Frank Sinatra courtesy of the Calgary Jazz Orchestra, joined by Johnny Summers on vocals. Hear classic Sinatra tunes and some Christmas songs, along with special guest appearances.

ISU World Cup Speed Skating: The second of two ISU World Cup Speed Skating competitions takes place this weekend at Olympic Oval. Watch the world’s fastest long track speed skaters compete, including plenty of Canadian talent.
