Amazon is hiring 9,000 seasonal workers across Canada this holiday season, and some of those jobs are in Calgary, the company says.

That's up more than 25 per cent from the 7,000 seasonal roles it hired for last year, an Amazon spokesperson told the Calgary Citizen. The spokesperson said Amazon doesn't know yet how many of the jobs will be in the Calgary area.

What the jobs are

The roles are spread across 55 Amazon sites in Canada, including fulfillment centres, sortation centres and delivery stations, according to Amazon. The work includes stowing, picking, packing, sorting and shipping customer orders.

Hours and schedules depend on the role and location, the spokesperson said.

What they pay

  • The average base wage for seasonal roles is nearly $24 an hour.

  • Seasonal workers get some benefits from their first day, including Amazon's Employee Assistance Program for mental health support and a 10 per cent employee discount on groceries and daily essentials bought on Amazon.ca.

  • Seasonal workers who move into permanent jobs join a workforce that averages more than $26 an hour, after a $1 raise Amazon announced this fall.

How to apply

Jobs are posted on a rolling basis at hiring.amazon.ca through the holiday season and can fill quickly, so it's worth checking back.

Amazon says hiring.amazon.ca is the only official place to apply, and that it never charges a fee to apply. Job scams spike at this time of year. If you get a suspicious job offer, report it to Amazon at [email protected] and to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
