Seven events to enjoy in Calgary this June

From comedy to music, there's something for everyone.

The sun is shining, summer is upon us, and June is filled with many diverse events around the city. With festival season kicking off, there is also a celebration almost every day of the month. Here are several exciting events happening around the city this month to enjoy. From a comedy festival to a Jazz festival to Father’s Day events and more, there’s something for everyone this month.

 

From June 1 to 11, partake in Calgary’s 23rd annual FunnyFest. From daily shows to comedy workshops, FunnyFest has more than 70 performers taking over 11 venues across the city. Ticket prices for events range from $20 to $99.

 

June 3 and 4 weekend brings the 13th annual Calgary Ukrainian Festival to the city. From delicious Ukrainian food and drinks to exciting shows and performances, the two-day festival is a vibrant and colourful celebration hosted at the Acadia Recreation Complex with a general admission of $10.

 

Brought to you by the Calgary Queer Arts Society, the Fairy Tales Queer Film Festival is running from June 9 to 18 at Globe Cinema. This year marks the 25th year of the festival, which highlights and shares uniquely queer films from around the world.

 

On June 10 and 11 enjoy the Way Out West Fest, which is a celebration of music, art, and history that aims to connect Calgarians with the diverse spirit of the modern West. Hosted at Deane House, the event starts with a Paul Brandt concert and dinner on Saturday followed by the Pure West Art and Artifact Auction on Sunday.

 

Join the Hangar Flight Museum on Father’s Day weekend, June 17 and 18, for the 10th annual Wings and Wheels event. Enjoy activities like flying crafts, a vehicle show and shine, and helicopter tours of the city (for an additional price). Tickets can be purchased at the door, but all dads get in for free!

 

From June 18 to 24, partake in Aboriginal Awareness Week learn, grow, and understand. People of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to attend the events. The main event is on June 24 at the Calgary Stampede Grounds and will feature a pancake breakfast, a Handgames tournament, a traditional Pow Wow and a barbecue all for free.

 

Ending the month, the JazzYYC Summer Festival is taking place from June 28 to July 2. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or you’re new to the jazz scene, JazzYYC offers a collection of concerts to enjoy across different city venues. Catch artists like Caity Gyorgy, Apollo Suns, Mazacote, and many more.
