Made by Marcus has teamed up with Terroir Artisan Butter on a limited-edition butter-dipped soft serve cone, bringing the internet trend home with local ingredients. Albertans can mark the province's birthday with a free celebration at Heritage Park Historical Village in Calgary this Alberta Day. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30, and includes live music, local vendors, and family-friendly activities honouring Alberta's heritage and culture.

Alberta Day marks the anniversary of the province joining Confederation on Sept. 1, 1905. Alt-country singer-songwriter Kyle McKearney headlines the Calgary event, and the day wraps up with a drone show at 9 p.m.

"I love living in Alberta and can't wait to celebrate our beautiful province on Aug. 30," said McKearney. "It's one of the few all-ages shows I get to do this year, so bring your families and come experience some Alberta-born alt-country music."

Minister of Arts, Culture and Status of Women Tanya Fir said the day is a chance to celebrate the province's history, culture, and contributions to Canada.

This year's celebrations extend beyond Calgary, with the provincial government supporting Alberta Day events in 69 municipalities from Aug. 28 to Sept. 1.

A viral dessert trend has found its way to Calgary. Made by Marcus and Terroir Artisan Butter have teamed up on a limited-edition butter-dipped soft serve cone, available starting August 5 at Made by Marcus's Inglewood location.

The cone starts with Made by Marcus's house-made soft serve in a fresh waffle cone, dipped in warmed Terroir Artisan Butter, and finished with flaky sea salt. As the butter cools against the cold ice cream, it forms a thin, crisp shell — a nod to the online trend that's made this combination popular around the world, now recreated with two Alberta-made products.

"We're excited to partner with Terroir on this collaboration, and we expect the lineups for this offering to be long," said Marcus, founder of Made by Marcus. He compared the buttery shell to an unexpected but perfect pairing, "like mayonnaise on French fries."

Veda, co-founder of Terroir Artisan Butter, said the collaboration brings something elegant to a classically nostalgic treat. "It is rich, salty, a little unexpected, and honestly, it just works," she said.

Made by Marcus operates eight scoop shops across Alberta and is known for its house-made ice cream and playful seasonal flavours. Terroir Artisan Butter, based in Calgary, makes its cultured butter using Alberta grass-fed cream, culturing it for 48 hours before hand-shaping and wrapping each block. The butter-dipped cone will only be available for a limited time at the Inglewood location.

🍴 Prosperity Bar: The team behind Paper Lantern has opened a new Chinatown spot, with a chef from Major Tom leading a playful menu that includes gyoza-stuffed wings and Sichuan-inspired hot chicken bao. The cocktail list gets equally adventurous, with combinations like kombu and gin or Szechuan-spiced margaritas.
