Weather warning for Calgary as city braces for significant snowfall

A few days after double-digit temperatures, the city is under a snowfall warning as a “significant” storm is expected to bring heavy snow to the city and surrounding areas by the end of the week. Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning for Calgary and Banff National Park, and winter storm watches for a large area towards the southern border.

As CTV reports, roads remained in good condition Wednesday night but the city prepared its sanders, plows, and sweepers ahead of the storm. The city applied anti-icing agents to the roads and will prioritize the roads with the highest amount of traffic, including Crowchild, Glenmore, and Memorial.

As CBC reports, the city is expected to get up to 20 centimetres, which should taper off Thursday evening. Motorists are warned that visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

Calgary Transit is preparing for a snowy commute and buses will avoid spots where they can get stuck. Those routes are listed here.
