With spring in the air and more sunshine on the way, it's time to break out the bikes. But if your old iron horse took a bit of a beating last season — or if it's been sitting in the garage, coated in rust — you may want to stop by the Calgary Bike Swap on May 3.

The gathering is a non-profit bicycle buy/sell/donate event that is consistently held on the first Saturday in May. The Calgary Bike Swap is founded and funded by Chris and Laura Grant, two local seniors who, as they put it, feel that providing secure transport to Albertans is a good use of their life savings. The event's consignment fee hasn't been raised since 2015.

In the morning, all bikes brought in for sale go through a safety check and are run through proprietary software to verify that they haven't been flagged as stolen. In the afternoon, the doors open to the public, and the hunt for a bike begins.

This year's event takes place on May 3 at the City Centre Parkade at 340-10 Avenue SW.
