A Night So Silent Summer event to raise money for Not In My City
Friday evening, L&M Productions will raise money and awareness for #NotInMyCity to fuel the fight against human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
In 2020, L&M founded A Not So Silent Events to both support local talent and make a positive impact on society. // Submitted
Calgarians are set to gather for an unforgettable night of local music, DJ beats, and patio vibes all while raising money and awareness for the local charity #NotInMyCity (NIMC). Hosted by L&M Productions, A Not So Silent Summer is one of many A Not So Silent Events that the group has put on for NIMC. Since 2019, L&M has raised $80,000 for the cause and continues to raise funds and awareness against human trafficking and sexual exploitation. The event takes place July 28 at the Calgary Marriott Downtown Hotel and features three local artists as well as DJ sets. We caught up with Morgan Melnyk from L&M Productions to learn more about the event and its cause.

This rooftop party promises to be an unforgettable evening of live music, DJ beats, patio vibes, signature cocktails and stunning views - all while raising support and awareness for #NotInMyCity. Taking place on the Downtown Marriott’s breathtaking rooftop and OneUp! Patio (110 9 Ave SE), this exceptional event will run from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on July 28. Guests will be treated to an unparalleled lineup of local artists with performances by Mariya Stokes, Marcus Trummer, Matt Blais, and DJ sets by Stay Vigilant Productions. Various ticket options are available through Showpass including general admission, VIP tables, and a VIP meet and greet with Paul Brandt. In addition to the live music performances, a special #NotInMyCity race car will be unveiled at the event as part of Paul Brandt’s upcoming Track and Taste Experience. There will also be a raffle with all proceeds directly supporting NIMC and their cause.
What is #NotInMyCity and why has L&M chosen to support this organization?
#NotInMyCity is a movement that raises awareness and brings key partners together to engage, commit and collectively build an action plan to prevent and end human trafficking with a focus on Child Sexual Exploitation and Sex Trafficking. To learn more or to become an ally visit: www.notinmycity.ca. L&M chose to support this organization back in 2019 and we never looked back. We wanted to put our voices behind those who don’t have a voice and behind an initiative that doesn’t have much awareness - especially with Calgary. It’s a tough topic for people to talk about and we wanted to help NIMC tackle that head on.
Tell us about the live music at the event and how L&M has supported local artists.
Music, and specifically supporting local music, is a passion of ours. We have world-class talent born and raised here in Southern Alberta and we wanted our fundraisers to provide both a platform and a voice for our cause and also for the artists. The more stages and events in Calgary that have live, local music, the better. A full list of our Artist Alumni is available here.
What is the importance of having this kind of event in Calgary?
Really this is to help raise awareness in Calgary. Human trafficking happens here in Canada, in Alberta and in Calgary. NIMC was founded in Calgary and we’re proud to be part of the grassroots, community support making a difference. Calgary is a great place to live, so let’s have some fun and make it even better.
What impact do you hope the event will have?
All of the proceeds from this event go directly to NIMC, which will use this to support community organizations on the front line of this issue. We also really want to raise awareness of NIMC and its fight against child exploitation and human trafficking. This summer patio event is a great way for the community to connect with a tough issue while having some fun making a difference.
