For many students, starting the sixth grade is challenging. But for Alexa, the protagonist of Celexia, life becomes even more difficult when she's diagnosed with dyslexia. What follows is a journey through frustration, discovery, and ultimately, self-acceptance.

The show is presented by the Citizen Theatre, a new theatre for young audiences aged eight or older. Celexia is a 40-minute play that aims to transform the challenge of a learning disability into an adventure about identity, imagination, and learning to love oneself.

"Growing up with a learning disorder isn't easy, and there's still so much stigma around neurodivergence," said Alexa R. McGinn, playwright and artistic director of the Citizen Theatre. "I wanted to make something that would have helped me when I was growing up."

Celexia is playing for one night only, on April 25 at the Festival Hall.
