Albertans can mark the province's birthday with a free celebration at Heritage Park Historical Village in Calgary this Alberta Day. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30, and includes live music, local vendors, and family-friendly activities honouring Alberta's heritage and culture.

Alberta Day marks the anniversary of the province joining Confederation on Sept. 1, 1905. Alt-country singer-songwriter Kyle McKearney headlines the Calgary event, and the day wraps up with a drone show at 9 p.m.

"I love living in Alberta and can't wait to celebrate our beautiful province on Aug. 30," said McKearney. "It's one of the few all-ages shows I get to do this year, so bring your families and come experience some Alberta-born alt-country music."

Minister of Arts, Culture and Status of Women Tanya Fir said the day is a chance to celebrate the province's history, culture, and contributions to Canada.

This year's celebrations extend beyond Calgary, with the provincial government supporting Alberta Day events in 69 municipalities from Aug. 28 to Sept. 1.
