Organizers of the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure are hoping Calgarians will help them make history on October 5. The local committee has set a fundraising goal of $1 million—which would make Calgary the first run site outside Toronto to reach that mark.

It's a big leap from last year's $837,000, and donations are still being accepted in the lead-up to the event. Participants can run, walk or roll either 1km or 5km at Southcentre Mall, with opening ceremonies at 7:40 a.m. and the run starting at 9:00 a.m.

This year's event includes a hot pink Dodge Ram pace car, fire trucks for kids to check out, face-painting, and entertainment from Prophets of Music. There will also be route activations like a Lululemon group stretch and YYC Cycle spin classes, plus a marketplace with eight local vendors selling limited-edition products. Ten percent of marketplace sales go back to the cause.
