Mischievous dog chews game controller and racks up credit card charges in the process

At first, Dave Murphy thought his credit card had been hacked.

Turns out, it was his own one-year-old lab/shepherd cross Zoey who made the unauthorized purchases.

Earlier that day, Zoey had destroyed Murphy’s Playstation 4 controller, but at the time he didn’t realize that the mischievous pup also ordered several add-ons for a game.

The game?

“Of all games, Watch Dogs,” Murphy laughs.

The chewing incident

Murphy normally leaves his game controllers in the TV stand but he forgot this time, leaving it on the coffee table while he got back to work at home.

“Things were very quiet, which usually means nothing good is happening. I went to check on her and then I discovered the destroyed controller,” he says, adding he was annoyed at first but figured he would just need to buy a new one.

When he got back to his desk, Murphy noticed a series of “thank you for your purchase” emails from Playstation, but at that point he hadn’t put two and two together.

“I panicked and thought my account had been hacked. So I deleted my credit card, changed my password, and contacted support.”

The suspect is caught

The company requested the serial number off of Murphy’s Playstation and confirmed it was ordered from his machine, assuring him his account wasn’t hacked while crediting him back for the charges.

“I went downstairs later, turned on the Playstation and sure enough [the purchases were] in the Playstation store. In her act of chewing the controller, she had gone in and purchased several add-ons for the game Watch Dogs.”

“The people I have told so far don’t believe the story, but they haven’t been around my dog,” Murphy laughs.

It’s not the first time, either

Zoey had previously destroyed one of his daughter’s Barbie dolls, and when the avid social media user posted the photo to Twitter, the official Barbie account chimed in, sending Murphy’s daughter some new Barbie dolls to play with.

“Rumors of my death were greatly exaggerated. We’d like to send a few non-chew toys to replenish the toy box,” the company tweeted in response to Murphy’s post.

“She is very playful but she gets bored sometimes when I’m working from home and she likes to get into things if anything is left around,” Murphy says.

‘But it’s hard to stay mad at that face.”

Zoey’s antics are followed on her Instagram account.
