Good morning {{ first name}}!
On Tuesday, we asked whether Alberta should bring back a regulated grizzly bear hunt, and you were clear. The overwhelming majority said no, with readers pointing to grizzlies' status as a threatened species and the ongoing encroachment on their habitat. One reader put it plainly: "People need to respect nature."
The Alberta Wildlife Federation has also weighed in, saying it would only support a hunt if updated science justifies it — a position that seems to line up with where many of you already stand.

The science of sports becomes an adults-only party on Friday
If your idea of a good Friday night involves biomechanics, themed cocktails, and an inflatable curling rink, Telus Spark Science Centre has you covered. Science of Sports: Spark After Dark takes over the venue tomorrow, April 10, from 6 p.m. to midnight — and it's 18+ only.
Guests can choose their own experience: the Gold Medal Track for those who want to dig into elite performance science or the All-Star After Party Track for neon chaos and experiments built around fun. Either way, there's plenty to do: LED mini golf, a hockey slapshot lane, grip strength challenges with motion capture technology, and adrenaline science with Skydive Extreme Calgary, among others.
The Canadian Sport Institute Alberta is running workshops on movement science and high-performance training, UCalgary Kinesiology is bringing injury-prevention labs, and a Health in Sports Panel will feature a cardiologist, registered dietitian, and sport psychologist. Live fencing demonstrations run at 8:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., and DJ C-SIK keeps things moving all night with R&B, funk, disco, and hip-hop.
For those who want to take the night up a notch, an add-on axe throwing workshop with Live Edge Axe Throwing is available.

Calgary's annual comedy competition is back for 10 nights
Over 50 comedians from across Canada and the United States are descending on Calgary for 10 nights of stand-up, competing for a share of $5,000 in cash and prizes at the 26th Annual FunnyFest Comedy Competition. Eight comedians take the stage each night across five venues, running April 9 to 18.
Now in its 26th year, FunnyFest is volunteer-produced and has built a loyal following in Calgary as a launching pad for emerging comedians. Past competitor Derek Donald says the competition helped him gauge his development as a performer — and he's back for another shot this year.
"There is so much laughter at each show every night with 8 standup comedians performing that FunnyFest Comedy Society should get an award for combating inflation, as each joke costs only a nickel a laugh," says artistic director Stu Hughes.
Students, seniors, veterans, and essential workers get a discounted rate. Full lineup and tickets at funnyfest.ca
