Calgary's home for music is marking a decade since it opened its doors on Canada Day 2016, and the National Music Centre has a full year of events lined up to mark the occasion.

The highlights start this spring. PlayLab, a hands-on sound playground for kids and families, opens May 6. Over the summer, EddyFest runs August 14-16, celebrating more than 120 years of music history at the legendary King Eddy. And the official birthday bash lands on Canada Day, with a Sharon, Lois & Bram singalong among the festivities.

Fall brings the Canadian Music Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony to the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium on October 3, while Joni's Jazz — an exploration of Joni Mitchell's relationship with the genre — is slated for Spring 2027.

Since opening, Studio Bell has welcomed more than one million visitors and houses four national music halls of fame. NMC president Andrew Mosker noted the milestone carries special meaning given how many once doubted a national music hub could succeed outside of Canada's largest cities.
