If you're a pickle person — or just pickle-curious — here's something to look forward to. Picklefest, Canada's premier celebration of all things fermented, is making its Calgary debut on Saturday, August 29 at Big Rock Brewery.

The one-day, all-ages festival features more than 40 local vendors, tastings, live music, and a home pickling competition inviting fermentation enthusiasts to compete for cash prizes and bragging rights across categories like Best Dill, Best Spicy, and Most Creative. Beyond pickles, the festival also showcases fermented foods and drinks like sourdough, kimchi, and kombucha.

Big Rock Brewery has created a limited-edition Pickle Beer for the occasion, made with Putter's Pickles brine — described as tangy and surprisingly balanced for the adventurous drinker.

Picklefest launched in Toronto in 2023 and has since expanded to six cities across Canada, with Calgary joining the lineup this year alongside Victoria, Vancouver, Edmonton, Charlottetown, and Toronto.

General admission for this unusual event is $24.95 plus fees, with VIP early access at $34.95. Kids 12 and under are free with a ticket-holding guardian.
