The Calgary guide to this year’s Pasta La Feasta
If you know our team, you’ll already know that we are suckers when it comes to carbs and cheese! So naturally, October, also known as National Pasta Month and Pasta La Feasta in Calgary, is one of our favourite times of the year.
For 2021, Pasta La Feasta has teamed up with 19 of our favourite local eateries to bring us the third pasta-themed festival and by the looks of the menu — it’s their best yet. Greatest Hits!
The theme? We are all in need of a whiff of familiarity these days, so Calgary’s iconic chefs are cooking up their greatest hits, paired with a quintessential song or record. Think ‘Dance into the Light,” “Puff the Magic Dragon,” “Velvet Goldmine” mixed with linguine, burrata, smoked pork cheek ragout. Are you hungry yet?
For every dish you try between now and the end of October, $3 will be donated to The Alex Community Food Centre to help end food insecurity in the city.
Get ready to have your favourite tunes stuck in your head as you devour these delicious dishes all month long. Here are a few that our team here at Calgary Citizen are most excited to try!
We’re Not Gonna Take It
This ‘Three Chicken Mousseline Ravioli’ by Flores & Pine features smoked chicken, thyme velouté, crispy pancetta, king oyster mushrooms and aromatic truffles.
SpaghettiOs
This take on a childhood fav is mixed with a little dose of Johnny Cash’s 1957 Album, ‘Folsom Prison Blues.’ Check out this ‘Anellini Pasta’ dish at The Eden featuring ground chuck meatballs, sun-dried tomatoes, spicy vodka sauce, shaved Mimolette cheese and fresh basil.
Mo Bamba
Model Milk is giving us some serious foMO with this ‘Pumpkin Cavatelli. Mixed with guanciale, sage and buttermilk this dish is the perfect dish to fall back on this season — see what we did there?
Velvet Goldmine
This restaurant in the sky is giving David Bowie’s greatest hits a new meaning. Head to Major Tom to try their ‘Manila Clam Linguine’ with manila clams, chilli, roasted garlic, and topped with parsley.
Don’t Let me be Misunderstood
Nothing to misunderstand here other than this dish sounds absolutely delicious! The Hawthorn Room has created a ‘Pulled Duck Confit Orecchiette’ with shitake mushrooms, sweet and sour squash, lemon zest and thyme leaves.
La Dieta
Translates to ‘the diet’ is so fitting, because we’re on a carb diet this month! Italiano Please has created this ‘Durum Wheat Fusilli Pasta’ with pesto, chopped fresh tomatoes, parmesan cheese shavings and pine nuts — we’re drooling!
For Me This is Heaven
Oh we love us a good gnocchi! Shrub Bloom has created their ‘Poplar Bluff Potato Gnocchi’ featuring delicata squash, brown butter, cured Red Fox Fungi mushroom ricotta, chervil and all dressed popcorn. A vegetarian delight!
Octopus’s Garden
We couldn’t end without at least one squid ink pasta! A Cucina classic, this ‘Squid Ink Linguine’ is dark and filled with chilli, oven-dried Tomato aglio e olio, prawns, squid, saffron, and prawn emulsion with capers.
Of course, these are only a handful of dishes you can find at this year’s Pasta La Feasta. You can find their entire lineup of hits here.
