Calgary is getting a new community soccer pitch, backed by a partnership between the federal government, Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, and the City of Calgary. The project is part of Jumpstart's broader goal to build 25 community soccer pitches across the country by 2029, backed by more than $2 million in federal funding through Sport Canada.

The pitch will be free to use, with the City working alongside Jumpstart, the federal government, community groups, and residents to shape the project through planning and public engagement. No site location or timeline has been set yet — those details will come after that engagement process wraps up.

"Calgary continues to see strong demand for quality sport and recreation infrastructure," said Deputy Mayor and Ward 4 Councillor DJ Kelly, tying the project to the City's GamePLAN recreation strategy. She said the partnership will help make recreation more accessible while giving kids more chances to play and connect in their communities.

The Honourable Adam van Koeverden, secretary of state for sport, pointed to this summer's soccer momentum across the country as inspiration for the project, saying it will give Calgary kids a shot at everything from casual neighbourhood games to bigger dreams on the international stage.

Marco Di Buono, president of Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, said the goal is to create safe, welcoming spaces for kids to play and build confidence, and that Jumpstart is looking forward to working with the Calgary community to bring the project to life.
