A performance described as "a creative earthquake" is back in Calgary this June. Echoes of the Land, which originally premiered at the 2025 High Performance Rodeo, returns to the Big Secret Theatre at Werklund Centre from June 25 to 28 as part of National Indigenous History Month.

The show is unlike most performances you'll attend. Audiences lie down on the floor — blindfolded or with eyes closed — and are immersed in a layered soundscape of traditional drumming, spoken word, and live music. There are no seats, no stage to watch, just sound and vibration washing over you in a meditative, deeply reflective experience.

"They're going to lie down on the floor and be bathed in music, sound, and poetry," said Eric Rose, artistic director. "They'll feel the vibration, because sound isn't just about what you hear, it's how you feel it. At the heart of the piece is a focus on Indigenous people, stories, and presence on this land."

The performance brings together a creative team led by Cedric Lightning, alongside Alanna Bluebird, Kenna Burima, Kris Demeanor, Jennie Esdale, Eric Rose, and Skip Wolfleg. Audiences are asked to bring their own yoga mat and arrive at least 15 minutes early — there is no late entry. Optional blindfolds are provided.
