Calgary police have charged a 14-year-old boy after a 13-year-old boy was stabbed during a fight in Copperfield, in southeast Calgary, last week.

Police were called to a fight between the two teens in the 0-100 block of Copperfield Point S.E. at about 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14. The 13-year-old was taken to hospital in stable condition with minor injuries, police say.

The 14-year-old is charged with one count of assault with a weapon. He can't be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police haven't said what led to the fight or whether the two knew each other.

"Incidents of violence involving youth are deeply concerning and can have serious consequences for everyone involved," District 8 Acting Insp. Graeme Smiley said in a statement. He urged parents and caregivers to talk with young people about resolving conflict safely and getting support early.

Copperfield is in Ward 12.

The teen is next scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Dec. 23.
