The Calgary International Film Festival (CIFF) opens Thursday, Sept. 24 and runs to Oct. 4, with more than 200 screenings of films from around the world. Some of the most interesting were made, shot or financed right here.

Below are the CIFF 2026 screenings with a Calgary or Alberta connection, in the order they play. The full festival schedule is at the bottom of this post, with a filter that pulls these out for you. You can also browse it on CIFF's website.

Regular tickets are $19. Spotlight+ gala screenings are $25. Sold-out notes are as of Sept. 21, so check CIFF's site for the latest.

British director Andrew Haigh (45 Years, All of Us Strangers) came to Southern Alberta to shoot this adaptation of a Colm Tóibín short story. A young man's mother vanishes in the first blizzard of the season, and as the search stretches from days into weeks, his family has to face the possibility that she isn't coming back. Fred Hechinger, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Caitríona Balfe, Kit Connor and D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai star.

Thursday, Sept. 24, 7 p.m., The Grand (Spotlight+). Saturday, Oct. 3, 3:30 p.m., Globe Cinema.

The most Calgary story at the festival is getting its world premiere here. Director David Ehrenreich spent three years following Carrie Radomski, a Calgary woman determined to build a cryonics facility in her hometown, The Futurist Club. What starts as a look inside the world of people trying to outlast death becomes a love story, driven by her husband's worsening health.

Friday, Sept. 25, 6:15 p.m., Globe Cinema. Sunday, Oct. 4, 11:15 a.m., Cineplex Chinook.

James Gray's crime drama premiered at Cannes and played the New York Film Festival before arriving here for its Canadian premiere. Adam Driver, Miles Teller and Scarlett Johansson play a family pulled into an illegal oil-dumping scheme. It was produced with Calgary's Orogen Entertainment and local executive producer Blair Ward.

Saturday, Sept. 26, 6 p.m., The Grand (sold out). Wednesday, Sept. 30, 9 p.m., Globe Cinema.

Alberta-native director Michael Maxxis follows Gail Lichtman, a New York transit worker who has been devoted to Our Lady Peace since the mid-'90s, as she follows the band across Canada on its 30th anniversary tour, from Saskatoon to Halifax. Jason Reitman and the members of Our Lady Peace are among the executive producers.

Sunday, Sept. 27, 6 p.m., Globe Cinema. One screening only.

Orogen Entertainment is also behind Lindsay Lanzillotta's debut feature, a 1980s coming-of-age comedy. After her mother leaves to find herself, 13-year-old Beatrice sets out to reunite her parents and leans on her parish priest, played by J.K. Simmons, for guidance. Abby Elliott and Mary Walsh co-star.

Sunday, Sept. 27, 3:30 p.m., Cineplex Chinook. One screening only.

CIFF splits its picks of the year's best Alberta-made short films across two evenings at The Grand. Night 1 has sold out. Night 2 still had tickets as of Sept. 21.

CIFF's industry conference includes three sessions on making film in Alberta: a panel on the state of the province's film and TV industry (Friday, Sept. 25, 1 p.m., Delta Hotel Downtown), a panel on Alberta's post-production sector (Friday, Sept. 25, 3 p.m., Delta Hotel Downtown), and a set decoration masterclass with Chris Smith, whose Alberta credits include Brokeback Mountain and Heartland (Monday, Sept. 28, 1 p.m., IATSE Local 212).
