Good morning {{ first name}}!
Hope everyone had a restful Easter long weekend! Calgary got some good news just in time — water restrictions were lifted on April 2, giving the city a little extra reason to celebrate heading into the holiday. That said, the pipe is still in rough shape, so this likely isn't the last we'll hear of it.

QUICK POLL
Should Alberta bring back a regulated grizzly bear hunt?
Calgary lifts water restrictions after Bearspaw feeder main repair
Calgary has lifted all water restrictions effective April 2, after crews completed repairs to the Bearspaw South Feeder Main, which had been offline since March 9. Work included reinforcing nine high-risk segments, replacing valves, and carefully refilling and testing the pipe before returning it to service.
Over the three and a half weeks the pipe was down, Calgarians and regional neighbours in Airdrie, Chestermere, Strathmore and Tsuut'ina Nation reduced their daily water use enough to keep underground storage tanks full and allow the Glenmore water treatment plant to run at increased capacity — a buffer that helped the city respond to additional emergencies during that period.
Normal indoor and outdoor water use can resume, and city recreation facilities — including hot tubs and kiddie pools — are returning to normal operations. Traffic detours along 16 Avenue N.W. and Sarcee Trail N.W. are expected to be removed by the weekend.
One caveat: the pipe remains in poor condition and another break is possible before a new pipe comes online in December. The city is not planning to reintroduce restrictions until fall, but asks Calgarians to keep up water-wise habits in the meantime — and points to its $50 rain barrel rebate program as one way to cut outdoor water use heading into summer.

Alberta wilderness epic hits the stage
Calgary's Ghost River Theatre is premiering Frontier, a physically driven new work set in the foothills of 1800s Alberta. Co-created by Jamie Konchak and Eric Rose, the show follows a woman whose life is torn apart by grief and violence, forcing her into the wilderness — and into herself.
“This work comes from a deep frustration with how women have been portrayed in historical narratives,” says Konchak, who also leads the work. “They are often reduced or sanitized. Jane is not that. She carries immense grief and trauma, but also a fierce life force, something instinctual and alive. And because the storytelling in Frontier is carved out of the body, not from words, it allows her story to become the story of us all.”
The production also carries meaning beyond the stage. Developed over three years, it was built around a working culture designed to support caregivers and mid-career women in the arts — and will generate resources and best practices for other producers to follow.
Frontier runs April 23 to May 2 at West Village Theatre.
