20 spooky events to check out in Calgary this Halloween season
It’s October and that means it’s officially “spooky season”! It’s time for pumpkin patches, haunted houses, and scary movies galore. If you’re a fan of Halloween, there is plenty to do to keep you entertained this month, whether you want something on the scarier side or more light-hearted shenanigans. So grab a PSL and take in some of these fun fall events this month!
Haunted houses and ghost tours
Calgary Ghost Tours take you on a spooky stroll through downtown, Kensington, and Inglewood to learn about the city’s haunted history.
Field of Screams at Cobb’s Adventure Park features six haunted houses along with rides, food, drinks, and other activities.
Haunted Calgary is back at New Horizon Mall with an all-new walk-through attraction called Wicked. There is a “low scare” version during specified hours.
Nightmare Creations’ The Asylum in Bowness promises a bigger and better attraction this year. There are sensory hours for younger kids and those with sensory sensitivities.
Screamfest returns to GMC Stadium on the Stampede grounds with six different haunted houses, carnival games, and more.
Spooky fun to get you in the Halloween spirit
Candlelight: A Haunted Evening of Halloween Classics at Lantern Community Church features a string quartet playing some bone-chilling tunes.
Halloween 80s Dance Party at Wild Horse Pub on Oct. 29 with live music from Silly Wrabbit. Grab your costume and bust a move.
Halloween Movie Marathon at Globe Cinema on Oct. 29 is a 12-hour all night event with seven flicks — both classic and underrated titles.
Spooktacular Mini Golf at WinSport features a Halloween-themed 18-hole course. Costumes are encouraged!
The Halloween Howler at Grey Eagle Event Centre on Oct. 28 features Steel Panther, Black Stone Cherry, and The Congregation.
Family-friendly fall festivities
Calaway Park Halloweekends runs until Oct. 15 and gives families a chance to dress up and participate in the Halloweekends Parade and explore Hallotown.
Ghouls Night Out at Heritage Park is a very popular Halloween event with family activities, crafts, carnival games, and scary storytelling.
Harvest Days at Granary Road will have freshly harvested pumpkins, apples, cranberries, corn, and more. You can also take in the beautiful surroundings with a wagon ride.
Harvest Lights at Calgary Farmyard is a great way to experience fall as the entire farm is illuminated with thousands of lights. But bring a flashlight for the corn maze.
Harvest Pumpkin Festival at Butterfield Acres is a chance to grab a pumpkin while meeting farm animals. There’s also pony rides, corn mazes, and wagon rides through Scarecrow Alley.
Orange Crush at Telus Spark provides an opportunity to explore the gross side of science. Watch a pumpkin decompose or hold a real eyeball. Plus an outdoor pumpkin catapult!
Pumpkins After Dark at WinSport boasts thousands of hand-carved pumpkins made into illuminated sculptures and Instagram-worthy displays.
Pumpkin Fest at Granary Road features the fourth annual Pumpkin Chunkin’ event on Oct. 22 and the very first Pumpkin Smash on Oct. 23.
Pumpkin Palooza at Cobb’s Adventure Park provides a picturesque photo opportunity at the pumpkin patch. You can even buy a pumpkin to take home to carve.
ZooBOO is back at the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo. Kids can get an early sugar rush with trick-or-treating through the zoo while checking out their favourite animals.
