Good morning !

Calgary’s Hedkandi Salon is hosting a Cut-A-Thon in support of the Jasper Community Team Society as they work tirelessly to support the residents of Jasper in the aftermath. Hedkandi Group’s salon professionals will be volunteering their time to provide haircuts or blowouts for a minimum donation of $50. Tributes continue to pour in for Johnny Gaudreau, his widow thanks Calgarians for memorial

The Calgary Flames shared this photo of the growing memorial for Johnny Gaudreau, who was killed last week alongside his brother. // Flames Instagram

The wife of the late Johnny Gaudreau thanked the city of Calgary and its people for the growing memorial outside of the Scotiabank Saddledome steps. Meredith Gaudreau made an Instagram post on Monday sharing her gratitude with the caption: "Thank you Calgary. This is amazing. But I'm not surprised. The best people ever." She posted her own tribute to him the day before.

Fans have been laying down tributes for the former Flames fan favourite since they heard the news of his tragic death Thursday night. Gaudreau 31, and his brother Matthew, 29, were both killed by a suspected drunk driver while riding their bikes. The brothers were set to be groomsmen at their sister’s wedding the next day.

Gaudreau was affectionally known as “Johnny Hockey” by fans and spent eight seasons with the Flames, who drafted him in 2011. He signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2022 off-season.

Calgary’s BUMP Festival brightens city’s core with 16 new vibrant and unique murals

Artist Harvey Nichol stands in front of his completed BUMP Festival mural, a “powerful homage to the ancient petroglyphs of the Philippines.” Located at Establishment Brewing, 4407 1 St. SE.

As the paint dries on 16 vibrant new murals borne from this year’s BUMP Festival, organizers are calling this year’s festival a celebration of Calgary’s creative community, with a spotlight on local artists. This year’s theme of the “Electric and Intentional” brought artists from near and far to transform Calgary's cityscape with muralism, music, panels, and more. There were 39 visual artists this year, with 28 from Calgary. Did you know you can use this map to create your own self-tour? Here are a few murals from local artists you need to see for yourself.

Calgary artists Stuart Teekasingh and Métis artist Waposhpyii added their unique voices to the festival. Teekasingh’s mural "SOLSTICE" at 1305 17th Ave. SW captures Calgary’s seasonal cycles in vibrant colours, transforming a once dark alley into a bright and welcoming space. Waposhpyii’s mural at 812 11 Ave. SW tells a powerful story of Indigenous resilience, exploring themes of cultural preservation and identity through the imagery of a Hare and the Indian Paintbrush Flower. On top of the High Park Rooftop located at 340 10 Ave. SW, Calgary-based artist GRAVY brought a fresh, unique graffiti writing style to the five new graffiti pieces that were painted in this location.

The BUMP Festival has transformed Calgary with more than 300 public art installations since its launch in 2017.
