Calgary Citizen newsletter Tuesday Nov. 26
Good morning !
The Canada Post strike is not only affecting small businesses and people ahead of the holiday season, but also local charities, including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Calgary and Area. Many charities rely on donations and with Giving Tuesday just a week away, the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization is issuing a plea to Calgarians. While the organization respects workers’ right to strike, the strike itself is disrupting how the charity connects with its supporters and could impact donations during the winter appeal campaign because many donors rely on year-end letters to make contributions. That’s why the organization is asking Calgarians to consider making their donations online, by phone, or in person at their office at 5945 Centre St. South.

City still digging out after record snowfall wreaks havoc

Winter has arrived and it came in the form of record-breaking snow accumulation over the weekend. On Sunday, city crews were busy clearing major roadways across the city and Calgarians were stuck digging their cars out of their driveways and ditches.
As CBC reports, the Calgary airport received 17.8cm of snow on Nov. 23, a new record beating the previous mark of 13.2cm set in 2018. It was a record-setting day for snow depth as well, with 24cm of snow measured on the ground Saturday. That beats the old record of 20cm, which was set in 1966 and equalled in 1996.
Meanwhile, as CTV reports, business is booming for local snow removal companies. One snow removal company reported receiving more than 70 calls on the weekend and has already helped removed snow from more than 225 properties.
