Meet the soon-to-be prime minister, Mark Carney

Mark Carney has won the race to lead the Liberal Party of Canada. Once he has been sworn in by Governor General Mary Simon and takes office, Carney will become Canada’s 24th prime minister. It seems likely that he will call a federal election, with some guessing that he may do so in the very near future.
As CBC News writes, rumours (and actual reports) have long told of various political leaders from both ends of the spectrum trying to tempt Carney into a government position.
Instead, the 59-year-old has tackled finance-based roles, including leading the Bank of Canada through a recession and the Bank of England through Brexit—Carney served as governor of both.
At the Liberal party gathering, Carney spoke of the unprecedented situation in which Canada now finds itself, saying, “This won’t be business as usual. We will have to do things that we haven’t imagined before, at speeds we didn’t think possible."
