Plus, popular TV anchor retires, Stampede records, and it's hot

Good morning !

The city is enacting a new pilot project that is designed to make sidewalks more accessible for Calgarians by creating e-scooter corrals designed to clear clutter. Officials say feedback from users and non-users over the past few years inspired the plan to develop the “sleek, artistic and functional” parking stalls. The parking corral for the pilot project will be located at 17th Ave. between 4th and 8th St. SW. Get more info here. The city is still in the midst of repairing water service and we are in a “critical” stage

City of Calgary’s water restriction chart.

Now that Stampede is over, all eyes are turning back to Calgary’s water main break. City officials held a Monday morning press conference and said the city remains at Stage 3 outdoor water use restrictions, which means that Calgarians can water their gardens and outdoor plants with handheld containers or buckets only.

As CBC reports, officials say the pipe that replaced the feeder main that broke June 5 remains at 55% of its capacity and although the pipe is full of water, it’s only moving a little more than half of its normal speed. A second pump will be brought online and monitored over the next 48 hours.

As CTV reports, Mayor Jyoti Gondek said: “I cannot stress enough how critical the next 72 hours are. It may be a situation where increased speed and pressure lead to another hot spot that needs to be addressed.”
