The city has started to controversially remove long-term RV residents in the city’s northeast

A battle has been brewing and the stakes are higher than ever as the city has started removing long-term residents who have been living in RVs parked along Moraine Road in the city’s northeast. Police and tow trucks descended on the road on Monday after the city put up “no parking” signs on Sunday.

According to CTV News, In late October, those RV residents were given eviction notices by the city and were told to leave by Nov. 21. On Monday morning, police, bylaw, parking authority, and tow trucks started ticketing and removing vehicles

One longtime area resident told Global News, “They came in full force, an army, a cops army, a parking authority, and a little contingent of tow trucks. They’re forcing us out.”He and others claim they are forced to live in the RVs because they can’t afford the cost of rent or housing in Calgary.

As City News reports, Ward 10 Coun. Andre Chabot recently stated he’s working on a plan to find another temporary spot for the residents, but the residents say they want a more long-term solution.
