Parents charged in toddler son's death plead guilty to manslaughter
EDITOR’S NOTE: The details in this story may be disturbing to some readers.
The parents accused in the death of their 18-month-old son have pleaded guilty to manslaughter. Michael Sinclair and Sonya Pasqua were charged in the 2021 death of their toddler, Gabriel. On Oct. 5, 2021, police were called to a home in the 2800 block of 14th Ave. SE for reports of a child in distress but was dead when they arrived.
As Global News reports, the boy was living with extended family in Taber shortly after his birth, but was returned to live with his parents a few months before his death.
As CTV reports, Gabriel died from blunt force head trauma, with a resulting brain injury, and from the untreated major burns leading to sepsis, according to an agreed statement of facts. The toddler had serious burns to 33% of his body and was malnourished.
A sentencing date will be set on Dec. 20.

Jubilations brings All Those Rolling Stones to the stage for a nostalgic blast from the past
Step into the titillatingly tumultuous world of All Those Rolling Stones, where the rhythms of an iconic rock band, the ink-stained pages of a revolutionary magazine, and the pulse of a generation converge. This is a roller coaster ride through the ’60s and ’70s, where music, media, and culture collide. Jubilations not only has live singing for every show, but some of the actors play their own instruments live during this production, including actress Kathy Maiko, who plays Fanny—and plays the flue live while on stage. Maiko has been the Jubilations musical director since 2019 and has also choreographed several shows, including Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and Top Gunn: A Maverick Musical. We spoke with Maiko about her transition from musical director to performing in the show.
How familiar were you with the music of the era?
I feel like I was born in the wrong era because I love that music. My brother loves classic rock and he introduced me when I was younger. He would quiz me when I was a child, and he’d be like, “What song is this?” But I loved it and then I fell in love with Mick Jagger. When I was eight I wanted to marry Boy George and Mick Jagger.
Do you have a favourite song?
Ruby Tuesday. It's one of my favourite stone songs of all time. I get to play flute on it… which is one of the first times
