GoGo Battles is wrapping up its fifth season and has no plans of slowing down. // Submitted

Fights often break out in Dickens Pub. Femmes and thems slam each other on the ground. They kick, scratch, and bite under flashing lights while music blares and bystanders roar. However, this isn’t just any kind of fight, it’s GoGo Battles. GoGo Battles was created over five years ago by Cabaret Calgary, Western Canada’s largest cabaret company. GoGo Battles is one of the company’s most unique shows. It’s billed as satirical feminist wrestling, but it’s so much more.

GoGo Documentary: Val Duncan is a producer and performer in Calgary who has participated in GoGo Battles for years. Duncan recently received a $10,000 grant from the STORYHIVE Voices program by TELUS to produce a documentary on GoGo Battles.

Wrestle Womania: Kayla Bigras and Victoria Bucholtz are both part of Cabaret Calgary and helped create GoGo Battles. The two are thrilled their story is being shared with the world as GoGo Battles is a passion project for all wrestlers involved.

Matt Coad, director of strategy at ATCOenergy and Rümi, says some Albertans are unknowingly paying more for energy than their neighbours. // Submitted

It’s no secret that utility bills have been skyrocketing and some Albertans are unknowingly paying more for energy than their neighbours. This summer, energy costs have risen exponentially compared to recent months. In July, Calgarians on the Regulated Rate Option paid 27.5 cents per kilowatt hour. As of August, rates hit 32.267 cents per kilowatt hour, a new record. Matt Coad, director of strategy at ATCOenergy and Rümi, is advising Albertans to take control of their bills, with many people still on a default regulated rate plan. Coad recommends that Albertans make the switch to a guaranteed rate to take control of their bill.
