Sleepy heads: Here’s how you can adjust to daylight savings time

The night owls amongst us (yours truly included) may be struggling this week after clocks “sprung forward” on Sunday for daylight savings.
In Canada, residents of Port Arthur, Ont. were the first to introduce daylight saving time in 1908. By 1918, the federal government had adopted the practice to extend working hours during the war. Daylight saving time was abandoned after the first world war and then reintroduced during the second—and this time, it stuck.
While most of the country observes daylight saving time, there are some provinces and territories that have opted out, including Saskatchewan, the Yukon, and some regions in BC and Nunavut.
If you find the annual time change jarring, here are a few tips to ease the transition:
Anticipate the time change and slowly adjust your sleep schedule
Make sure you’re well rested before the change
Spend time in natural light to help your body clock adjust

Sustainable and inclusive arts space set to open in Calgary

With its current home slated for demolition due to the 2018 collapse of the Fairview Arena, the National accessArts Centre (NaAC) was in need of a new home—and they’ve found one. On Tuesday, MP George Chahal announced plans for the Multidisciplinary Disability and Community Arts Hub, a space that will allow artists living with disabilities to shine.
The net-zero carbon facility—the first of its kind in North America—will feature a multi-purpose presentation and training venue, a visual arts gallery, a social enterprise café, and outdoor gathering spaces. MDCAH will include spaces that can be used by the broader community.
“The new net-zero Multidisciplinary Disability and Community Arts Hub will create a barrier-free facility that will enable Calgarians and visitors to witness the creativity of artists living with disabilities,” said Chahal, speaking on behalf of the Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Nathaniel Erskine-Smith. “This space will enhance the arts and culture scene in Calgary while providing new creative opportunities unlike anywhere else in Canada. The federal government will continue to invest in projects that support a greener, more inclusive, and accessible future for Calgarians and all Canadians.”
Where to eat and drink
🍴 Letty: Sometimes, what a person really needs is a good pizza. And chef Daniel Ramon’s Letty delivers just that—and more. Located in the BLVD Beltline building, this spot opened last summer and offers (non-pizza) brunch, dinner, and drinks. Letty is also available via delivery, for the days when that pizza needs to be eaten on the couch.
🍴 Café Alchemist: Chilly days call for hot coffee and good food. Café Alchemist delivers with quick and healthy fare like their chicken wrap or tender beef bowl. Give it a try at their downtown location.
