Calgary Citizen Newsletter Thursday July 11
Good morning !
On Tuesday, we asked our readers how they feel about tattered or damaged Canadian flags and 84% believe displaying damaged flags is disrespectful. This is what some of our readers had to say about the topic:
“That is a first world attitude, in these difficult economic times maybe the people did not have the money to spend on a new flag."
“I see tattered flags everywhere these days. Patronize your country by having a beautiful flag representing us. It wasn't that many years ago that everyone just knew that to be proud of your flag, your symbol of a free country, that you would have it in good condition.”
“People complain about everything. The intention was right regardless of the flag status.”
“No opinion either way, but I remember us joking that a rather large torn flag in the southwest represented Canada well, with Quebec wanting to separate.”

Three animals died from injuries at the Stampede over the course of four days
The Calgary Stampede comes under fire each year from animal rights groups and this year is no different after three deaths at the halfway point. // File photo
Animal rights organizations are slamming the Calgary Stampede after three animals had to be euthanized during the first four days of the event due to devastating injuries, according to City News.
As CTV reports, Stampede officials did not have any information about what happened to a steer that was euthanized Monday, calling it "a highly unusual and unfortunate incident."
According to CBC, that was in addition to two horses that were euthanized over the weekend during separate chuckwagon horse races.
As per Global News, animal advocacy groups are calling for action following the three deaths.
