Good morning !
SunnyCider’s fruit donation program is back in full swing with an eye on apples, pears, and cherries. You're invited to become a fruit donor and not only do you save your Calgary fruit from an untimely death, you're helping SunnyCider make a great product out of what many consider to be a waste product. Drop your apples, pears, and cherries at SunnyCider on Saturdays between Aug. 24-31 from 12-4pm and Saturdays and Sundays in September from 12-4pm. Donors get 20% off of any cider purchase in house or take away and 40% off any specialty bottles (most of which are made with Calgary fruit).

There’s camping - and then there’s camping the minimalist way
Since joining YouTube 13 years ago, Steve Wallis’ videos have amassed almost 200 million views.
For many people, camping season starts on May long weekend. But for Steve Wallis, camping season is all year long. The Alberta man is better known to his 1.6 million YouTube subscribers by his popular page, Camping with Steve. Since joining the platform 13 years ago, Wallis’ videos have amassed almost 200 million views.
Wallis’ credo is “Always Be Camping”, and he definitely takes it to heart. “I'm always thinking about camping, or camping, or editing a camping video, or answering questions about camping,” Wallis tells Calgary Citizen. “I'm just some guy that likes camping probably way too much and puts it out for the world to see.” Wallis’ love of camping goes back to his days as a young child.
“Some of my earliest memories were going out camping with the family. We’d head to the mountains and it was always a great time,” he says. For most of his 20s, Wallis made work his focus, but he still enjoyed getting out into nature and having a campfire whenever he could. The goal of Camping with Steve is to show that you can get out and explore nature with minimal and inexpensive gear, and without spending a lot of money, Wallis says.

Not your grandparents’ classical music: Candlelight Concerts make classical music cool
“How could we connect with younger audiences?” One simple question led to the creation of Candlelight Concerts, which resulted in a multi-sensory experience that invites everyone to enjoy not only a classical music concert but a visual experience. From emo music to Taylor Swift to Abba and everything in between, these intimate concerts make classic music accessible like never before. On Saturday at 9:30pm, enjoy The Best of Emo in a way you’ve never before.
Tell us about Candlelight concerts and where the idea originated.
Candlelight Concerts are a series of original music concerts created by Fever aimed at democratizing access to classical music. This innovative format represents a unique live musical experience through a varied offer of programs to meet all tastes, played by local musicians in emblematic venues, with the space and performers illuminated by thousands of candles. The series is now present in more than 150 cities worldwide, with several million guests in attendance to date. We recognized the need to make classical music more accessible to a wider audience, reaching beyond the core demographic of classical music enthusiasts.
What is the purpose/intent of the experience?
We intend for the public to enjoy a never-seen-before musical experience that captivates every sense. From the location to the program, every concert is different and every experience is unique.
How do you choose themes/musicians to cover?
Fever has an in-house music curation team that is constantly looking to hire talented local musicians who align with our belief that classical music can reach a diverse audience and demonstrate this by performing compositions for all tastes. We always source local musicians with a history of proven excellence. As Candlelight is in hundreds of cities worldwide, the specific schools and ensembles in which these musicians have played will vary, but no one is brought on board without an established resume showcasing strong performance abilities.
Tell us about the performers' experience.
Each city has the best local musicians chosen by our music curation team and every performer has a different background that contributes to giving the best concert experience.
