Alberta Health Services confirms case of measles in Calgary

A person with lab-confirmed measles was in public settings while infectious in Calgary, as per a statement from Alberta Health Services on Tuesday night. The individual was on board an Air Canada flight from Dubai to Calgary via Vancouver, and tested positive for measles after arriving in Calgary.

The Calgary Herald has listed the specific flight numbers and times, as well as the airport gates where exposure may have occurred. The Alberta Children’s Hospital emergency room was also listed as a location of possible exposure.

The CBC outlined the symptoms of measles as fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a red blotchy rash that appears three to seven days after fever starts. Anyone who may have been exposed should review their immunization records and call HealthLink 811 for advice.

Measles is highly contagious, spreads through the air, and there is no treatment.
