Lights, camera, action: Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson are in the city filming a new movie
‘The Last of Us’ filmed in Calgary two years ago and the city’s TV and film industry has been booming ever since.
If you happen to see a couple of Hollywood stars on your way to work today, no, you’re not seeing things. Actors Robert Pattinson and Jennifer Lawrence are in Calgary to film Die, My Love, according to rumours confirmed by ACTRA. It began filming in the city on Monday and is expected to last until Oct. 8.
It’s not the first time the city has seen a big boost to its film and TV industry. The last big buzz was when popular HBO series The Last of Us took over the city for its first season. Based on the popular video game, it is the largest television production in Canadian history, according to the provincial government.

Brewery & the Beast is bringing more food and drinks to a smaller crowd this year and that means more for room for you to enjoy all of it
Brewery & the Beast takes place Sunday, Aug. 25 at Fort Calgary from 2-5pm for general and 1-5pm for the VIP experience.
Western Canada’s premier culinary festival, Brewery & the Beast is back for an 8th year and you’re going to want to snap your tickets up soon because it sold out last year. Top chefs and restaurants from across the province will come together at Fort Calgary to showcase their fiery culinary creations that pair perfectly with Alberta-based ales and spirits.
This year the festival of meat, beer, and music will step up its game even more with more shade and seating areas, more chef stations and a greater number of portions per station, and more beverage providers. Not only that, there are fewer tickets being sold, which means less people, smaller crowds, and greater access to the food and beverage stations and venue amenities. We chatted with founder Scott Gurney to amp you up for this weekend’s event. Spoiler alert: he can’t pick a favourite food.
What's new and exciting this year?
The Pyramid de Fuego: a 12’ tall pyramid that was custom built by a blacksmith from Sooke, BC. Chef Matias Sallabery, from Sous Fire (Victoria, BC), will be using his traditional Argentinian methods to cook incredible foods over the live fire. The Chicken Bus. Guests will enjoy an interactive experience with this new addition to Brewery & the Beast. Watch for it as it cruises around the venue handing out fried chicken dreams to those in attendance. “It’s cluckin good!” Vancouver-based Two Rivers Meats butcher shop will be joining the event and will be bringing their signature tomahawk steak activation to the event, and it is nothing short of spectacular. A fresh new beverage lineup will be sure to please all palates, and our brand new music program features local artist Matt Blais.
What is your best advice?
Try restaurants you’ve never been to, or ever heard of. That's the beauty of Brewery & the Beast, it's a chance to explore, learn and educate yourself, while taking down dish after dish of delicious meat-laden concoctions! We want guests to have the option to try and engage with everything. We want people to learn about new spots to eat, and to become those restaurants' customers again and again.
Where to eat and drink
🍴 Istanbul Grand Bazaar and Cafe: Authentic Turkish cuisine used to cost a plane ticket and a passport, but this spot has made that a thing of the past. Featuring a retail area along with sit-down dining option, hungry visitors can indulge in everything from potato-stuffed borek (filo pastry), Turkish coffee and homemade baklava.
🍴 Ikea: It may be renowned for chic, cheap and modern home furnishings, but they also whip up a mean meatball. Head straight to the top floor for what is arguably the most economical and tasty lunch in town. From their classic Swedish meatballs to gravlax (cured salmon) and carrot cake, Ikea's food offerings are flavourful, fresh and wallet-friendly.
