The Servus Calgary Marathon is back this weekend, celebrating 61 years as one of the city’s biggest running events. Taking place on May 24 and 25, the event offers something for just about everyone—from first-timers tackling the 5K to seasoned runners taking on the full 42.2 km course. Saturday features the shorter events, including a Kids Race and Diaper Dash, while the half and full marathons are set for Sunday morning.

This year brings a few changes aimed at making the event even more inclusive and exciting. There’s now a Masters division (for runners 40 and older) and boosted prize money across several races. The 10K has also had a makeover, shifting from an out-and-back format to a loop course—something organizers say should help more people hit personal bests.

Beyond the races, the Calgary Marathon continues to focus on community and giving back. The Charity Challenge lets runners support local causes, with over 100 organizations involved. There’s also a new “Green Bib” option for those looking to reduce waste—runners who opt out of a race shirt and medal will see a $10 donation go to the Great Divide Trail Association instead.

Parents who want to take part without worrying about child care are covered too. Race day child care is available for the time it takes to complete a half or full marathon, giving kids their own fun experience while their parents are out on the course.

Whether you're running, volunteering, or cheering from the sidelines, this weekend’s marathon is set to be a celebration of movement, community, and Calgary spirit.

If you’ve ever wanted to see a show on Broadway but haven’t had the chance to make the trip, this weekend’s concert might be the next best thing.

Ashley Brown, whose credits include starring in Broadway’s Mary Poppins and Beauty and the Beast, will bring some of the theatre’s most iconic songs to life right here in Calgary. Backed by the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by Juliane Gallant, the performance is expected to blend show tunes with the power of a full symphony—offering a rare chance to hear Broadway favourites in a whole new way.

The concerts take place on May 23 and 24 at the Jack Singer Concert Hall, starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $42 to $134 and are available through the Calgary Phil’s website.

Whether you’re a longtime musical theatre fan or just looking for a night of live music downtown, this show is set to offer a mix of nostalgia and standout vocals.
