Calgary Citizen Newsletter Tuesday Dec. 5
Good morning, there!
Since today is International Volunteer Day, we wanted to highlight an inspiring Calgarian who was recently awarded the prestigious Hazel Gillespie Community Investment Award. Britt Kubicz has spent her career ensuring the companies she works with and volunteers for are making a difference. Recognized for her commitment to giving back to her community, Kubicz has put in hundreds of hours in support of many local organizations such as The Mustard Seed, Skipping Stone Foundation, Calgary Food Bank and the Distress Centre. She has also led the TELUS Calgary Community Board and acted as a community ambassador for the company. She is an inspiration! Check out our things to do today to win tickets to a premiere screening on Wednesday.

It’s business as usual for commuters as the new Victoria Park-Stampede Station opened to riders on Monday. The transit line was fully closed between Chinook Station and City Hall Station to complete a rebuild project of Victoria Park and Stampede station.
As CTV reports, the work was part of a larger project that broke ground in 2021 to extend 17 Avenue across Macleod Trail. The city hopes it will help connect the Beltline area to the Entertainment District, linking pedestrians and traffic to development on both sides of Macleod Trail.
As the Calgary Herald also reports, It marks a significant step toward preparing the station for the BMO Centre expansion, slated to be completed in 2024. The finished construction is a major step forward in making a more accessible CTrain station.
Calgary Transit is offering 25% off December monthly transit passes.
