For six decades, Heritage Park has been part of the vibrant fabric of Calgary. From humble beginnings in 1964, the park has become Canada’s most visited living history museum, with over 600,000 visitors in 2023. That history is being marked in a new exhibit opening on Monday called “That Special Place We Call Heritage Park: 60 Years of Community.” Check it out!

The Recall Gondek petition is facing scrutiny in light of some documents being shared online

The motivation behind a citizen's effort to recall Mayor Jyoti Gondek is coming under scrutiny after a document began circulating on social media earlier this week that paints recall petition in a different light. The petition has until April 4 to collect 514,284 signatures from eligible voters, which is 40% of the electorate.

As CBC reports, local business owner Landon Johnston began an official bid last month to collect 514,000 signatures from Calgarians who want the mayor removed from office. Johnston said he wasn't satisfied with Calgary's leadership.

As the Herald reports, Mount Royal University professor Duane Bratt posted a photographed pamphlet to X about ‘Project YYC’ — a campaign to leverage the recall petition into the creation of a future conservative party, which would field candidates in the 2025 municipal election.

According to Global, the mayor is raising concerns about data mining and how the information is being used.

Everyday Tourist blogger shares his favourite things about Inglewood

Inglewood is not only Calgary’s oldest community and one of the most desirable to live, but it is home to the city’s original main street now known as 9th Avenue SE. Inglewood’s main street is chock-full of live music venues, art galleries, boutiques, cafes, bistros and fine dining, making it the perfect place to live, work, and play. Today we turn to passionate city explorer and urban planner Richard White to learn more about three of 24 of his favourite reasons to visit the eclectic community. The Blues Can, an old Quonset hut, is the city’s most authentic juke joint offering local and touring musicians seven days a week. Unfortunately, it may not make it until the end of 2024 as the landlord has plans to for a new residential building on the site.

Fair’s Fair Books is not only Calgary’s largest used bookstore, but it is a vintage museum with thousands of artifacts making it a perfect spot for bibliophile treasure seekers. It too may become a victim of Inglewood’s growing popularity as there are plans for residential redevelopment of the site.

Legend has it Cher once shopped at Crown Surplus when she was in Calgary for a concert. From the outside it looks like a military surplus store, but inside it is a hip outdoor/camping store.
