We caught up with Sophie Brown who stars in the show to learn more about the production

Just take those old records off the shelf until Aug. 12 at Jubilations Dinner Theatre. // Facebook

Taking over the Jubilations Dinner Theatre stage until Aug. 12 is Old Time Rock ‘n Roll. The show follows Michael Stevens as he stumbles upon an old stash of records located in his attic. As he jumps back in time, relive with him all the greatest records containing all of the greatest songs from those eras. The show runs every Wednesday to Sunday so be sure to grab a ticket, which also comes with a three-course dinner. There’s something for everyone with this stroll down memory lane. We caught up with Sophie Brown who plays Lizzy Zemp in the show.

How has the transition been from junior shows to adult shows?
It's obviously a very different crowd that it draws than the kid shows we do. We're only two acts and our adult shows are three acts, so it's a longer night. It's been great.

Do you have any favourite songs in the show that you get to partake in?
Oh, I love “California Dreamin',” which is one of the songs that has all six cast members and the harmonies in it are just beautiful. “Mr. Sandman” is another one of my favourites. I love Kathy, and our music director's arrangement of it and the harmony she created for it. Just being able to be a part of that sound is really fun.

How familiar are you with that era of music?
In my personal life, there are definitely a few songs that I'm familiar with.I grew up on the Beatles but there’s a lot of music and a lot of artists that I didn't know much about. It's been fun getting to know more about The Rolling Stones and just the history that comes with the music. We've all done a lot of research and it's been really fun to tap into everybody's research, too.

What can audiences expect from the show?
It's the perfect style for people who were around in that time period. I think it's a really fun look back for people like me who weren't around back then, like your stories from your grandparents. I think there's something for everybody in this show, particularly because it's something that everybody can relate to, like when you grow up coming out of school, going into college with your friend group and your life changes. But in our story, music is the one thing that brings it all together and I think that's something a lot of people can relate to.

How did you know you wanted to be an actress and a singer?
Well, my first ever show that I was a part of was my nursery nativity play. Back in the UK when I was three years old, I got to play the star that guides Mary and Joseph, so I had my first solo “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and I'll never forget it. It was one of my earliest memories of not knowing how to clear my throat yet and croaking out “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.” My mom saved it forever. But from that moment when I first got on the stage, it just always felt like home and it's been really nice to be able to do that full-time.
