LIVE: The results for Calgary’s 2021 General Election

Live Updates: 

This morning the latest polls showed Mayoral candidates, Jyoti Gondek and Jeromy Farkas neck and neck, with Farkas leading by 1%. Last week Farkas penned a letter to voters asking them to place their ballots strategically, particularly to supporters of mayoral candidates, Brad Field and Jeff Davison. 

According to the City of Calgary, 141,329 Calgarians voted in the advanced polls, which is the highest Advance Vote turnout to date. 

4 p.m. Over 93,000 Calgarians had cast their ballots. Many boasted wait times of only five minutes, but six reported the wait to be over half an hour. 

6 p.m. The City reported a voter turnout of approximately 129,500. With two hours to go, over 40 stations reported a wait time of over 15 minutes. 

8 p.m. The polls closed with lineups still at many of the polling stations. Many said they waited till the end to vote due to long lines at polling stations earlier in the evening.

8:30 p.m. The first results began to roll in. Jyoti Gondek is leading the Mayoral race by 45% of the vote at this point and Jeromy Farkas trailed far behind at 29%. The unofficial tallies for the Referendum on Equalization Payments were over 50% for yes,  just over 50% voted no for Daylight Saving Time, 60% voted yes to add Fluoridation into the municipal water supply, and Pam Davidson held the lead at 19 percent for the Senate vote. 

8:49 p.m. Jyoti Gondek was declared the 37th Mayor of Calgary leading with 71,419 votes. — Calgary’s first-ever female Mayor. Farkas trails behind with 45,859 votes.

9:09 p.m. We heard from Jeromy Farkas live from Gasoline Alley at Heritage Park. He stuttered as he congratulated Mayor Jyoti Gondek saying, 

“Thank you, Jyoti, for your tremendous service, and your incredible vision of tremendous potential that you put forward for a city. And that platform that you earned the trust of Calgarians to execute on your vision for a community of economic, social, and environmental resilience that beckons us as a reminder of the city that we’re so proud of, and we want to keep building. I take to heart that you, as our next Mayor, will represent not just those who voted for you, but those of us who advocate for change.”

Farkas continued to thank his supporters and his team. 

9:27 p.m. Sean Chu, the incumbent for Ward 4, pulled ahead of DJ Kelly by 1% of the vote. 

10:04 p.m. Jyoti Gondek gave her celebratory speech saying, “My heart is full at the thought of how much love and support I have received.”

RESULTS: Mayoral Race – as of 10 p.m. MST 

Winner: Jyoti Gondek 45% 

Runner up: Jeromy Farkas 30% 

Third Runner-up: Jeff Davison 13% 

Jyoti Gondek is officially the 37th Mayor of Calgary and the first-ever female Mayor that this city has had.

Winner: Sonya Sharp

Runner up: Steve Webb

Incumbent: Ward Sutherland

Ward 1 is bound by city limits to the north and west, 85th Street, Stoney Trail and Crowchild Trail to the east, and Sarcee Trail and 32nd Avenue to the south.

WARD 2

 Winner: Jennifer Wyness 

Runner up: Kim Tyers 

Incumbent: Joe Magliocca 

Ward 2 is bound by city limits to the north, 14th street NW to Stony Trail to the east, Sarcee Trail to the south, and Crowchild Trail to Stoney Trail to 85th Street to the west. 

WARD 3 

Winner: Jasmine Mian 

Runner up: Brent Trenholm 

Incumbent: Jyoti Gondek 

Ward 3 is bound by the city limits to the northeast, Deerfoot Trail to Beddington Trail to Berkshire Boulevard to the south, and Stony Trail to 14th Street to the west. 

WARD 4 

Winner: Sean Chu

Runner up: DJ Kelly

Incumbent: Sean Chu

Ward 4 is bound by Country Hills Boulevard, Berkshire Boulevard and Beddington Trail to the north, Deerfoot Trail to the east, 16th Avenue and 32nd Avenue to the south, and Crowchild Trail and Sarcee Trail to the west.

WARD 5 

Winner: Raj Dhaliwal 

Runner up: Stan Sandhu 

Incumbent: George Chahal

Ward 5 is bound by the city limits on the north and east perimeter, McKnight Boulevard to the south, and Deerfoot Trail to the west. 

WARD 6

Winner: Richard Pootmans 

Runner up: Lana Bentley 

Incumbent: Jeff Davison 

Ward 6 is bound by the city limits on the south and west perimeter, the Trans-Canada and Sarcee Trail to the north, and Bow Trail to 37th Street to the east. 

WARD 7 

Winner: Terry Wong

Runner up: Heather McRae

Incumbent: Druh Farrell

Ward 7 is bound by 32nd Avenue to the north, Edmonton Trail and 4th Street to the east, 9th Avenue to the south, and the Bow River to the west.

WARD 8 

Winner: Courtney Walcott 

Runner up: Gary Bobrovitz 

Incumbent: Evan Woolley 

Ward 8 is bound by Bow Trail that turns into 9th Avenue SW on the cusp of the Beltline to the north, Macleod Trail to the east, Glenmore Trail to the south, and 37th street to the west.

Winner: Gian-Carlo Carra

Runner up: Naomi Withers

Incumbent: Gian-Carlo Carra

Ward 9 is bound by 16th Avenue, Deerfoot Trail and Memorial Drive to the north, city limits to the east, Glenmore Trail to the south, and Macleod Trail, the Elbow River and Edmonton Trail to the west.

Winner: Andre Chabot

Ward 11 is bound by 50th Avenue, Macleod Trail and Glenmore Trail to the north, 24th Street and Deerfoot Trail to the east, the Bow River and Anderson Road to the south, and city limits to the west.
