Calgary’s best Holiday Markets to shop local this December

The holidays are a wonderful time in Calgary as the city embraces the spirit of giving and strengthens its local community through Christmas fairs, pop-up shops, and seasonal markets. It’s local makers, artists, and small businesses’ time of year to shine.

From holiday crafts to handmade jewelry to sustainable wellness products to unique stationery, and so much more. You can find stocking stuffers and gifts from the heart for everyone on your list at these annual local markets.

Here are seven you won’t want to miss as we get closer to the big day!

The Tsuut’ina Nation is hosting their first-ever Holiday market in partnership with TAZA. The market will be filled with Indigenous and local artists, and small businesses, along with festive fun, and a drop-in skating rink outside. Tickets are $8.

When: December 11 to 12

Where: Seven Chiefs Sportsplex and Chief Jim Starlight Centre — 19 Bullhead Road, Tsuut’ina Nation

The farmers market is once again transforming into a large holiday market filled with additional seasonal vendors to shop for one-of-a-kind gifts, decor, and more. At the same time visit with Santa’s reindeer while enjoying a freshers Bear Claw, warm up by a crackling fire, visit with the green Christmas-killer during Grinchmas, and have Christmas tea with Mrs. Clause. There’s lots of festive fun to be had throughout the month of December at The Calgary Farmers Market.

When: Various dates until December 23

Where: The Calgary Farmers Market – 510 77th Avenue SE

After a 1-year hiatus Market Collective is back and bigger than ever! This holiday edition of the market will be returning to the BMO Centre with over 150 local vendors, live music, YYC food trucks, interactive elements, community give-backs and of course Santa will be in the house. To keep things a little weird and different lookout for local FUBAR legend, Terry Cahill who will be roaming the halls as Santa each weekend, bringing the holiday cheer like nobody else can. Tickets are $6.

When: December 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, and 19

Where: 20 Roundup Way SE

Enjoy shopping local in the downtown core at the beautifully curated event space of The Pioneer on Stephen Avenue.

When: December 8 and 9

Where: 117 8 Avenue SW

Head out to the mountains for some local shopping in the Bow Valley! Bunde up with hot chocolate and peruse local vendors set up along Bear Street in the heart of downtown Banff.

When: Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at select dates and times until December 31, 2021.

Where: Banff Street, Banff

Join the farm for their annual Christmas affair. They have over 240 local makers, bakers, growers, and small businesses set up both indoors and outdoors throughout the property. There’s nowhere more photogenic for a holiday market!

When: December 10,11, and 12

Where: #20 80181 338 Ave East, Foothills County

Happening in the gorgeous space at the Brownstone in Downtown Calgary, this modern little market is the best spot to find unique gifs and trendy essentials. From clothing and accessories to stationery to specialty foods and trinkets for your littles — get started early on your local holiday shopping. Tickets are $5.
