Calgary has been celebrating pride since Project Pride Calgary brought the first festival to the city in 1988. Since then, tradition has continued and has grown exponentially over the years. Calgary Pride is hosting various events across the city this year ending with the parade on Sunday, Sept. 3. Here are 8 events to enjoy this year.

Join Amy Villarejo for an insightful lecture on queer media today. The lecture is not just a survey of the field, but an opportunity to be inspired by examples of queer and trans makers. The lecture is free and will be held at the Calgary Central Library on Aug. 29.

Join Lougheed House for a special edition trivia night where the theme will be Calgary Pride! Test your knowledge of all things 2SLGBTQIA+ pop culture, history, and more. Drinks will be available for purchase from Last Best Brewing & Distilling. The trivia night will be hosted at Lougheed House on Aug. 31.

Earlier this year, an Ottawa filmmaker released their 8th feature film Enter the Drag Dragon, a drag-fu, action, comedy, horror, and musical film. Cineplex is now premiering the film across Canada to coincide with city Pride festivals. With Calgary’s Pride Festival, the film will be available to view at Cineplex Odeon Eau Claire Market Cinemas from Sept. 1 to 7.

Taking over The Palace Theatre, WERK is set to be the best pride party. There will be an international lineup of DJs with spicy performances as well. The event will be at The Palace Theatre on Sept. 1.

The Pride Festival is two days of free events and performances to celebrate equality and diversity. The festival will be at Prince’s Island Park with food trucks, activities, and vendors. On Saturday, the festival will be 18 plus with a Pride Cabaret Soiree taking place. Sunday welcomes all ages and will end with a movie in the park.

Join WERK for its Drag Brunch at National on 17th! Hosted by Farrah Nuff, the event will feature many beloved drag queens with music by Jack Fowle. Grab your tickets early for the event which takes place Sept. 2.

Run or walk the Calgary Pride Parade Route in reverse with Run Calgary. A safe and welcoming event, all participants will receive the 2023 Love is Love unisex singlet, finisher medal, and bib. The run will start at Fort Calgary at 10am on Sept. 3.

The city comes alive through a spectrum of colours during the Pride Parade which features live music and high spirits as participants march through the streets. The parade will be on Sept. 3 at 11am beginning at 9th Ave and 4th St marching its way southeast to end at Fort Calgary.
